Phina “tanned up” resulting in people questioning whether she was white or colored.
The act may as well be called Phina and "Picks"; it is a "Pick act," and a good one at that. Phina begins with "Lovey Joe." That "Joe, Oh, Joe" has been sung many times in the last ten weeks, and it says something that Phina comes along and gets more out of it than all other performers combined. Three "picks" are carried and particular attention is given to the dressing of the "kids." The two smaller of the trio provide some comedy. The finish brings the "kids" back for dancing.
Phina has an act like no other. She is a good "coon shouter," and with the kids behind her it puts the act over the top.
