Pat O'Brien, the aviator who escaped through Germany, is also a local. He lives 50 miles from here, and a great to-do was made over him hereabouts when he came back. He is, thank the stars, not trying to be a vaudeville actor. He talks naturally, haltingly, boyishly. He got strong clatter at both ends. His talk is an epitome of his book, but bis presence brings it home as no print could. It is rather thrilling to look at one of the great heroes and hear him, then think of what be has been through and realize that this smiling, retiring human who stands there in the flesh outdid romancing and imagination with his own hands, heart and head. O'Brien was
stoutly welcomed and sent off with a cheer.
