After the death of her father, a young girl is forced to become a maid for the woman whose husband caused the death of her father. A disagreement resulted in the girl’s dismissal. The girl is dressed in one of the lady of the house’s dresses. The son of the house sees the maid, not recognizing her in the dress; he falls in love.
The sketch is rather loosely woven with a very poor theme. It appears as if a dramatic sketch has been reworked with a comedy twist. The piece is only poorly played, Miss Bennett’s performance the worst. Her forte is not comedy. She seems to be working under pressure when she is supposed to be light and airy. The mother did nicely and the son (in an impossible role) was as manly as could be expected. The 20 minute sketch will do for the small time if it was cut three or four minutes.
