Lydia Dreams is not a woman. He is a ventriloquist.
Dreams uses a life-sized figure of a veteran of the English Army. The veteran is found seated near the entrance to St. James Park. He carries on a conversation with two other characters, Lydia Dreams himself being off. Then, garbed as a lady, does Lydia come on and converse with the veteran about heroic deeds done on the field of battle, and it ends with a death scene, the soldier falling back dead. Lydia then snatches off bonnets and reveals that Lydia is a man.
