This sketch entitled “Justice” was seventeen minutes long.
“Justice” stars Julius Steger as a prisoner who has served nineteen years of a life sentence for murder. The evidence is revealed to have been circumstantial and the prisoner is pardoned for good behaviour. He initially turns down the pardon until he is convinced to leave by his mother.
Frederick Esmelton played a particularly good prison warden, and should be praised by the Warden's Association after the next visit of a prison reform association committee. Steger played the prisoner with quiet dignity. Adele Clark does as well as she can, considering her role as the mother mainly requires her to stand with her head on Steger's shoulder for most of the sketch.
"Justice" will not leave a lasting impression on any vaudeville audience as the sketch is largely devoid of any action. It will suffice, however, to give Julius Steger one trip around the circuit. His following is large enough that the audience will grant him at least respectful attention.
