The rural comedy sketch is of about 1890, when William M. Cressy was in his heydey. Mr. McAuliff portrays the "rube" justice of peace. He holds a plot of land at $2000, expecting a prospective railroad to be the purchaser. The intrinsic value of the land is about $400. He receives a wire from the road's representative wishing to negotiate for the purchase. The agent arrives and turns out to be a woman. Her parents had originally owned the property and her mother is buried there. He sells it to her personally, agreeing to wait an indefinite time for payment.
The woman feeds the old man for a lot of laughs. The sketch is effective enough for the small time. The man's characterization is good and the woman will do.
