"Doing Him Good" is a twenty minute sketch, coming from the short lived musical show "The Deacon and the Lady," of which Kelly was the star. The scene is the attempted hold up of the deacon by the actress and the "fly guy." It sounds like the plot of a burlesque show as there is imaginary food, the breaking of expensive crockery and the passing back and forth of money through revolvers that are not loaded. Another recognizable part is the ill-pronounced French.
Kelly's rube is funny but this work will not add to his fame. He handles the old junk well, but it is junk nonetheless. The act could use a little of Kelly's dancing, as he is funnier when in action. Helen Byron, although suffering from a severe cold, gave an extremely good performance. Her French was good, but one of her numbers was ruined due to her hoarseness.
