Houdini escaped from a heavy zinc-lined box. The challenge was issued by William Knabe & Co.. The audience and musicians were growing visibly restless. After the illusionist escaped from his prison, the box was examined. All nails were where they had been placed, as were the ropes tied in the same knots.
The attendance was at an all time high, breaking the previous records. It was in fact the largest audience in any Washington theatre so far.
