Ethel Whiteside and Picks

Miss Whiteside wears two gowns, looking neat and pretty in the second which is more youthful.
The four “picks” with Whiteside do more than the customary little colored assistants. They must, for none of them can dance, although they attempt to for comedy. The youngest of the pickaninnies appears in the girl’s dress during her singing of “Lovie Joe.” Miss Whiteside begins her act with an “English Johnny” number which permits some of the boys to attempt specialities of their own. The second of the fellows does quite well. The picks do a little of everything, including a mixed band, in “two” with a well painted special drop representing a back fence. Miss Whiteside remains tranquil for the larger portion of the turn, allowing the attention to fall to the boys.
There is no “freshness” to the act, nor are they over grown. It is one of the best “pick” acts around. The act grew very strong toward the finish. The only improvement necessary would be to shorten the opening to make it move faster.
