Esmeralda, blessed with large features, opened the show with her xylophone. "The Poet and Peasant" was in her routine, that number seeming to have been composed especially for xylophone players. Her "U.S. Melodies all mixed up," as she announced a patriotic medley, got something. Popular numbers followed, making Esmeralda acceptable in the spot.
