"Just Plain Variety" - One of the principals is Katherine Nelson, enacting a "Dutch" girl. She sings a couple of songs, including one about "Hammerstein" which means nothing, unless through good for "The Corner." Her best song was a telephone number, "All Alone." If memory is correct, this song has helped many from toppling over. There is not sufficient action in the parlor scene, except from Bailey and Austin. The finish was two men doing the old "ballet dance" in full skirts. There was also some pantomimic whistling which recalled that Bailey and Austin did whistling before Morton and Moore.
The finish brought encores.
Fred Bailey and Ralph Austin were not kidding when they named their act "Just Plain Variety." It is just that - plain. The only bits that were good are from the "two-act" the duo had three or four years earlier. They could easily cut down their assistants and once again become "Bailey and Austin." While the act will go over as is, the deadwood surrounding them is smothering the duo's potential.
