Of course Miss St. George does not by any manner of means fill the shoes of Charley Mack in “The Old Neighborhood,” but I was agreeably surprised to find the act first-class, the character work of Callahan being the best in the vaudeville stage. The harp is substituted for the bagpipes and Miss St. George both plays and sings very well. 21 FS.
Formerly associated with Kellar, and making his second appearance here. Has an excellent act, and his feature “The Mysterious Cross” was not only mystifying, but will cause some talk. 23 min. F.S.
The original drummer girl with the Fadettes. Sings a little to start with, and plays various instruments commonly associated with the drummer of an orchestra. Has a fine presence and wardrobe, and fits snugly in this position. Good act. 10 min. in 2, with plush.
This Old-timer was quite a surprise to me for she still retains good voice and her comedy is just as pleasing as when she got the glad hand from the first governor of Michigan from the gallery of Detroit’s first theater. She sang three songs including T’row ‘em down McClusky,” and she went away strong. 14 min. in one.
Mr. Fletchergave us a composite act of several men who are more known to fame than himself, filching quite broadly from Charles Warner, the English actor. He gave us Monday afternoon Warner’s “At the Telephone,” and beginning Wednesday he will give us Warner’s “Drink.” All his characters, including various characters from “Dickens,” were excellent, and received well merited applause. 29 min. Open and close in 1. There is plenty of time to set a stage as his close is 3 min.
Presenting a singing and comedy sketch called ‘Dreaming.’ From the adverse reports of this act I was prepared to be disappointed, but just the reverse was the result. I consider it one of the most enjoyable acts I ever witnessed. ‘Jimmie’ Powers is the goods all the way, and some distance further. 25 min. FS.
Too much cannot be said in praise of this woman. Her very pleasing personality, her happy selection of songs, her repressed acting, made the biggest hit in this line this theatre has ever known. She was compelled to sing five songs at Monday mat. 20 min. in one.
Assisted by the Sharp Brothers gave us a blackface singing and dancing of great merit. Leonard has an excellent voice for blackface and is a graceful danger while the Sharp brothers more than make good their wooden shoe dance. The act is well mounted and as a whole could hardly by improved upon. 13 min, FS, 3 in one.
One of the most artistic and sightly [sic] acts on the vaudeville stage. Gould is far better than Charley Ross and Miss Suratt is quite superior to Mabel Fenton. Miss Suratt’s gowns are magnificent and she presents a brilliant appearance. The act was received with great enthusiasm. 14 min, FS, 5 min in one.
Equestrienne act. She has two excellent horses and is dashing bareback rider quite superior to any of the equestrienne acts played here. Was the hit of the bill. 9 mins. F.S.
