Comedy sketch Handkerchief No. 15. This is quite a good act and it secured numerous laughs. Bond and Fremont Benton are both are both very capable and their support consisting of another man and woman was acceptable. Tis the old story of the Mother-in-law. Nothing original about it but same goes very well especially for a sketch. 26 minutes Interior.
‘The German Cobbler.’ Man and woman. Comedy act. Man sings and dance some. Women does several dances all passably well. The act opens in special set in two showing cobbler’s shop then goes to the exterior showing snow scene. Here is introduced snow shoe dancing by both not especially well done. The act is not as good as it was last season and just managed to get by. Don’t care to have it again. 12 minutes.
At both of yesterday’s performances, this hit of the bill. – He has a good speaking voice and as line of material that is a mixture of humour and philosophy. – He knows how to tell his stuff also how to make it reach home. – For a single act of its style Wood has the distinction of making one of the most substantial hits ever known here. 81 minutes in 1.
Sketch: “Fix in A Fix” – Four People: Two men: two women: — The theme is “Motherinlaw” – The star is a good comedian. – The set drags a little in the early part of same but eventually works up considerably and finishes fine for laughing purposes. – Bradshaw and his coworkers deserve great credit for doing as well as they did here for when a sketch makes good in this house something out of the ordinary has been accomplished. – The various roles are integrated satisfactory and we have not had anything that made them laugh more for some time. C.D.F. 26 minutes.
Just a ‘girl act.’ – Aside from the hard show dancing finish and the piano playing of Miss DeHaves the act was among ‘and others.’ – Nothing especially wrong about the act – simply in a town where the best girl acts in the business are worth about $100.00 per week to us. – It looked like a distinch [sic] fall down until the finish but they finally won out and saved themselves. – Personally I think the act is good of its kind but patrons here don’t seem to care for this style of offerings. A very clever lot of Fox Terriers that do quite a number of very good tricks and do them well. The man in the act works, which is more then can be said concerning the majority of animal sets. The set made good thoroughly. 8 minutes garden set.
Black face comedian who made a great effort to make good but whi [sic] failed dismally at both Monday performances. – He has a line of talk that would be O.K. in New York perhaps, but not for Columbus – I believe his manner is also against him, his delivery failing to make a pleasing impression. He manifested a tendency to roast the audience for not making up with him and was instructed to obliterate this line of comedy as our people are not accustomed to it. I really believe that in many houses he would make good but his act is not the style of monologuist [sic] that Columbus likes. 11 minutes Street.
An act that might be termed a female Henri French. She does a little of everything. She was received favorably but did not go as well as I anticipated. Quite satisfactory however. She may not be doing her best for the reason that she is in a fit of temper because she is not featured above everything on the bill. She is far from the feature with the audience. There is no fault to find in her work because she makes good in a moderate sort of way. 15 minutes special set.
Made a very good impression but far from what I expected taking into consideration the good things I had heard of her in advance. She will draw some here however on account of her husband being related to some very prominent local Jewish families. She got by as what you would term an ordinary success and that is about all. 10 minutes in one.
Man and woman doing illustrated songs. The pictures are good as to coloring and the remainder of the act is of the conventional order. Not a good act for this house on account of the innumerable picture and songs here of the five cent class. Made no impression to speak of and had a tendency to make the show drag. Don’t want this act again or in fact any moving picture or illustrated song offering. 17 minutes.
