Comedy bicyclists: This is an act of unquestioned merit and they fared well at the hands of the audience. Received many laughs and shows some work that was really worth while. This this a very good act and believe that it would have much stronger has not the Baker Troupe been on the bill last week. 11 minutes Garden.
These girls sing a number of character songs and do quite well with them. Their greatest fault as I see it is a tendency to drag things. They got along O.K. but I believe would have done much better with some livelier material. 18 minutes 1 & 3.
The Girl Behind The Drum: She makes a nice appearance and does variety of trap drummers work that is excellent. She got away with it very satisfactory and was O.K. Palace 2, 10 minutes.
‘Mag Haggerty’s Reception.’ The same team as of yore and just as good as ever. Ryan does a great Irishman and makes a substantial hit. The act is well received throughout and it secured many hearty laughs. No doubt but that they will go much bigger with a good house. CDF. 26 minutes.
Blackface male quartet. ‘The Independent Cadets.’ A very ordinary quartet so far as singing is concerned with a line of comedy that fails to arouse much interest. They would better the situation by cutting out a lot of talk that really amounts to nothing and which unnecessarily consumes time. 22 minutes. CDF. 3 then 1.
Equilibrists. Two men. This act scored a [sic] heavily as anything of a similar character that has ever played in this house. They do work that is all good and they do it about as easily and in as finished a manner as could be desired. Notwithstanding the fact that the show is a trifle long, they held the interest from the first to the last of their work and many punctuations of applause was given them for their efforts. There is nothing ordinary about them and unlike many performers in their line they neither pose or ‘fourflush.’ There is something doing all of the time they are on the stage. 11 minutes, palace 5.
A garden of music. Two men in a very novel and good musical act. They play several numbers using cornets, bells, musical flower pots, etc. The act went big and must be recorded as having made a very substantial hit. The setting is elaborate and pretty and out of the ordinary. There is nothing remarkable about their music or the way it is played but the manner of introducing the same makes a favorable impression. They finished strong and took a recall or two. 19 minutes special set.
An ordinary instrumental act consisting of four men. Nothing especially worthy of attention but they managed to get by and were not bad by any means. Their time was at least consumed without tiring any one. The French Horn solo won considerable applause. This player has some style in playing and gets good tome. 13 minutes olio.
Soubrette & gymnast. She opens with a dance that is fairly well done then goes to trapeze and performs a number of stunts that win considerable applause for her. She makes a nice appearance and got away very well. She uses a pretty setting which adds materially to her work. No fault can be found, especially for an opener. 10 minutes special set.
Man and woman (colored) in hoop act called ‘Hoopland.’ A very good act of its kind especially the early part of same. The last half of the act is given to the hoops representing people and doing a pantomime. The work is all very good but nothing starting and to my way of thinking the finish is weak. The act went very nicely however and was far from a frost. They deserve credit for getting by at all, this town being from the home of Everhart and the Young Bros. People here think that no one can roll hoops with these boys.
