10 mins. Garden. This is one of the best hand balancing and equilibrist acts seen here. Their work is done so quietly and with so little effort that many did not appreciate what they were seeing. Still they received good applause and close the show in good shape (Pictures follow, not proceed this act.)
19 mins. Street in 1. Strong applause on first appearance, and the act was the laughing hit of the bill. While the act is the same all through the last season the audience this afternoon fairly ate it up and the finish was good. They lift the comedy portion of the bill society.
15 mins. Special. While this act seemed to please the house this afternoon there is a sameness all through it that was remarked upon. Four songs with chorus dancing tells the story. The scenic effects were good and there was liberal applause, but several other numbers made a bigger hit. The finish in the rain took well with the house. Personally the act was a disappointment. (Full stage.)
(Coloured) two men and one women. They sing and introduce a little comedy. The straight man has a very pleasing voice and he made good with a ballad which was nicely rendered. The comedy of the other fellow was acceptable. SO far as the woman is concerned she filled in and that was about all. Personally I liked the set but it did not make much of an impression on the audience. 15 minutes in one.
Wire artists: Three people and a cracking good act which I think suffered as a closer for the reason that the show is very quiet all through and hardly wakes them up sufficiently to maintain interest. AM going to place Gaston & Greene earlier on the bill tonight and Tannen before this act to see if I cannot get a stronger finish. I think this will help the Holloways who are really of unusual merit. 18 minutes, palace.
Easily the hit of the bill. A very clever fellow who went big. He is as good as ever and undoubtedly in a class of his own as a single entertainer. I think he will become a standard favourite here as many people remember him from last season and he received a reception upon his entrance. 19 minutes in one.
The Minstrel Boys. Our audience does not seem to care for this act to any extent. They went about the same as last season which was only fair. It strikes me that they waste a great deal of the time in unnecessary talk is which no especial points are made. The singing and dancing takes well enough but their talk seems to put a damper on the other efforts. 21 minutes in one.
Juggler and a crackerjack who got his audience early in his work and help it throughout his act. He introduced a number of novel feats and received a rousing good hand at his finish. He will hold the closing place on the bill without the last trouble and his work should create favourable comment. 17 minutes. Palace
Comedy sketch: two men, one woman. One of the biggest hits we ever had in the house. Mason is a comedian ofmdecided [sic] ability and he got as many laughs as the audience had in it. His trick piano playing was a scream in fact everything he did was a positive success. His assistants were all that could be desired and I don’t know when we have had an act that seemed to give more general enjoyment and satisfaction. CDF 18 minutes.
Two men in a comedy sketch, ‘Finding a Partner.’ One blackface, the other white and straight. There is no particular plot to the offering, they sing some songs very acceptably, introduce a little piano playing and got away with all they attempt with credit to themselves. This act is very good and made a favorable impression. 20 minutes, CDF.
