Eckhoff & Gordon

‘Musical Laugh Makers,’ The man is funny and plays the various instruments he introduces capably. The woman is really excess and does nothing in particular. Her singing merely lets her by. However the male end of the team makes up for the defects of his associate and many a laugh he got. The finish was just fair the early and middle portion of the act being really the hit. Palace 25 min.

Winnie Panteer Troupe

This is an act of very unusual merit and it made good this afternoon. The various tricks are out of the ordinary and mostly excellently performed. The audience this afternoon was decidedly cold and several of the best feats were passed by it. I feel however that this act will create talk of a favorable kind. Nothing better than this act for comedy acrobatic balancing etc, has been seen here. 10 minutes garden.

Irving Jones

He sang four songs and just about got through with them and that was about all. A little surprised that he did not go better for ‘coon’ acts are usually strong here. H worked hard enough but for some reason did not seem to hit them right. He finished just fair. 16 minutes.

Harts Electric Crickets

A distinct hit. Two principals and eight girls. Nothing especially elaborate about the scenery but satisfactory. The act so far as singing was concerned was all that could be desired judging from the reception the work brought forth. The soprano was suffering with a bad cold and very hoarse, but even then made good. The finish was strong. Special set.

Harry Shunk

Blackface comedian with a singing and talking act. He went well and used a lot of stuff not heard here before. Well known here and will no doubt draw some for the reason that he is very popular in this city.  His work is a [sic] good as the majority of men in his line and much better than that of a great many. He was put on in an emergency, owing to the sudden illness of Chris Richards. 16 minutes in one.

Hawthorne & Burt

Two men in a talking act that fooled all of us.  For quite a while it looked as though there not at all and all at once them got them coming and finished strong.  Their dance made a distinct hit and the bit of pathos with the comedy finish caused a rousing laugh. 14 minutes.

Wm. Thompson & Co.

Sketch ‘For Love’s Sweet Sake.’ Rather a long drawn out affair and one that looked badly during the early portion. Finally interest seemed to be aroused and at the finish the act was given a fairly good hand. I don’t look much from it however if all of our patrons during the week are as cold as thoses [sic] of this afternoon were. Mr. Thompson placed himself at somewhat a disadvantage by speaking very rapidly and facing up stage a la Mrs. Fiske. His work suffered some for this reason. C.D.F. 24 minutes.

Chinko

A young juggler who was unfortunate this afternoon in missing many of his tricks, due no doubt to the fact that he has been laying off and must have been out of practice. He was no [sic] good natured about the misses however that he finally got the audience with him and it entered into the spirit of the situation and laughed bot [sic] at and with him. No doubt this fellow is clever, in fact he demonstrated as much and finally got things coming after a very hard fight. 11 minutes palace.

Elite Musical Four

Quite a good musical act by four men. They play a number of instruments and play them well. They lack finish and could make a better impression if they livened up a bit. Two of the members seem to be listless and it hurts the act to the eye. Their music will pass muster however. 16 minutes palace.

Robinson, Parquette & Woods (Colored)

Two men and one woman. They sing and introduce a little comedy. The straight man has a very pleasing voice and he made good with a ballad which was nicely rendered. The comedy of the other fellow was acceptable. So far as the woman is concerned she filled in and that is about all. Personally I liked the act but it did not make much of an impression on the audience. 15 minutes in one.
