Nellie Nichols

Songstress comedienne. Miss Nichols went very big, her various songs scoring a manner that stamped her as an unqualified success. Really the applause hit of the bill, gaining for herself the strongest finish of the show. 16 minutes, olio in 1.

Murphy & Nichols

In “The School of Acting.” This act was a genuine hit all the way through, the laughs being fast and furious from almost the beginning to the end. Certainly a great laughing vehicle. 27 minutes, wood in 4.

Niblo’s Birds

This act went very well and held the attention throughout without any trouble. Since last here Niblo has added a third bird to the act, the introduction of which injects considerable comedy. The work of all three seemed to hold the closest attention, the finish of the act being moderately strong. 12 minutes, olio in 1.

Rooney & Bent

Same clever little pair as ever, doing “At the News Stand.” A lot of comedy in the lines and the kind of singing and dancing this pair is noted for. The act went very well all the way through and finished O.K. Pat is greatly worried because is on so early and I will no doubt have to pat him on the back and talk him out of it. The act is really all that could be desired. 13 minutes, special set in 2.

Verona & Alvin Verdi

Young woman and boy about 14 years old who introduces a taking line of violin and violin and ‘cello duos. A very pleasing little act which held the attention moderately well. The weakest point in the act is the dressing, which could be greatly improved, although they do not really look poor. Both could array themselves with much better taste and in this manner enhance the merit of the act. The musical work is O.K. and they finish moderately strong. Street in 1, 10 minutes.

Rich, Sully & Scott

Comedy bar act with three man doing characters—German, Chink and Irishman. This is a good lively act with liberal allotment of rough comedy in the way of falls, and cleverly executed tricks. Act made an excellent opener and finished strong. Garden in 3, 7 minutes.

Rose Pitonof

Notwithstanding our having played all of the other swimming and diving acts, Miss Pitonof gained the attention of the house from the outset and held it until the finish. Liberal applause after quite a number of her tricks and a good solid round at the finish, indicating the act was well liked. Special set in 5, 11 minutes.

Gordon & Marx

German comedians of the Kelb & Bill order. Introduce a lot of tangled conversation which seemed to go very well. Won a liberal lot of laughter and finished strong. Street in 1, 16 minutes.

Rothwell Browne

Impersonator, introducing “The Belle of the Broadway Show”, “The Pantaloon Girl” and the Dancing Maid”, each of which numbers pleased to a moderate extent. The act finishes with a dancing creation entitled “The Serpent of the Nile.” This is the Cleopatra story and wonderfully well presented. The scenic equipment is elaborate, the costuming very pretty and the lighting effects appropriate. The dance itself acquired and held the closest attention the audience throughout, the finale of the dance being particularly strong and making all in all a very successful number. The act must be accounted a wined and it is one that should create a deal of talk. 21 minutes; opens special set in 2, closes special in 4.

Valerie Bergere’s Players

One woman, two men, presenting “What Happened in Room 44.” A moderately good little sketch capably presented. Given promise of being very serious and finally finishes with a comedy document. Not a great deal to it in the way of story, but it pleased fairly well and scored a moderately strong finish. 14 minutes, special in 3.
