And “The Flying Piano.” Man and woman in a novelty musical offering, the singing and the piano-playing of which is introduced via a grand piano flying through the air. A good act of its kind, but did not go well enough to really hold the feature position. Scattered applause and fairly strong finish. (Open)
Two men and one woman in a comedy skit, “Fixing the Furnace.” An “Ed Hayes” sort of offering. Notwithstanding bad reports, the act entertained quite well and won a lot of laughter, going, in fact, as well as 90% of the comedy acts we play. The idea is novel and the two men manage to extract considerable fun from it. Held attention throughout, finishing fairly strong. Special in 3. 16 min. (Scranton)
“Cello soloist of the Boston Symphony Orchestra.” I feared he would be too high class for the Monday matinne [sic] bunch, but, contrary to expectations, he delighted all who heard him. Not much of a showman, but a good, brainy musician, who held his own strictly on his merit, not even requiring “hair” as an adjunct. Played five numbers, all of which went big, taking several bows at the finish. Olio in 1. 14 min. (Pittsburgh)
Australian Stock Whip Experts. This is a very good act, which held the attention throughout. They perform a number of very interesting and apparently difficult stunts, each of which won applause. The finish was moderately strong. Special in 5, 13 minutes.
Presenting “High Life in Jail.” Six men in the act. Scene is the interior of a prison. There are a lot of good comedy lines but in spots the act is a little tiresome. Generally speaking, it went very well. The whole thing is a satire on prison life, the participants being ex-bankers, magnets of various kind, etc. A moderately strong finish. Special set in 4, 22 minutes.
In a new repertoire of songs with which she made a very favorable impression. Was accorded a reception upon her entrance and had no trouble in holding them all the way through. Finished very strong with her “Oo! Oo!” song. 21 minutes, olio in 1.
This wire wizard had everything his own way, scoring heavily from beginning to end and finishing strong. He certainly is a wonder. 8 minutes, garden in 4.
A neat excellent ventriloquist who uses one figure, a boy. All of his work is very fine and it scored heavily. His whistling finish was a big surprise and made a genuine hit. A thorough success throughout. 20 minutes, olio in 1.
In a negro comedy skit, “Along the Suwanee River.” Two men, one woman, a darky boy, old man and mammy. A good line of comedy talk, which won a lot of laughs. Southern melodies are introduced by three with banjo and guitar accompaniment. Just a smattering of dancing by the boy. They have a very pretty special set which adds greatly to the merit of the act. Went well throughout an finished moderately strong. 24 minutes, special act in 5.
Acrobatic dancing and comedy acrobatic work by two women and a man. The girls are nice looking and their work is well executed. The man is a very good acrobatic comedian, and the act in its entirety is worth while. There was scattered applause throughout and the finish was moderately strong. 18 minutes, palace in 4, finish in 1.
