Man and woman, offering “A New Idea.” Woman appeared at opening and makes announcement of absence of partner, also that she will demonstrate hypnotism. Call for subjects, two of which are “plants,” the other, the male member of team. The act evolves into a very clever “imitation” offering, consisting of work, a la Harry Gilfoil. Held attention throughout, gaining liberal laughter and scoring a strong finish. Olio in 1, 16 min. (Toledo)
Man and woman in “The Act from Toyland.” Soap bubbles, boomerang throwing, diablo, work. Excellent novelty act. Made very favorable impression all the way through. Good finish. Garden in 5, 11 minutes. (Scranton, Pa.)
“The Juvenile Entertainer.” The biggest kind of a hit, singing, talk, dancing and harmonica playing. Unique in every respect. “Floored ‘em” and ran things to suit himself. Best single number here for a long time. Street in 1, 13 minutes. (Nashville)
“Two Jolly Fellows.” A-1 performers wyo [sic] deliver excellent line of songs, dances, and talk. The Monday mat. bunch failed to take them for a time but finally realized that they were “regular” artists and then things livened up and they finished big. Thoroughly satisfactory. 16 minutes special in 1. (Toldeo)
“The Girl at the Piano.” Songs and instrumental numbers. A pretty hard spot for an act of this kind but she did quite well gaining and holding attention, winning some applause after each number and finishing moderately strong. O.K. Olio in 1, 10 minutes.
Two men, two women and boy. A fair act of its kind. The little fellow seemed to hit the funny bone of the house on account of his comic appearance in tights and, for at least one-half of the time they worked, the “kid” was a scream through his innocent and unconscious comedy. The house finally settled down and gave something like serious attention. The act is too slow and could be greatly improved by quicker action. Just a moderate finish. Garden in 5, 11 min.
Four women and two men and “extra woman” in “Miss 318,” a stage version of Rupert Hughes story by the same name. The act has the merit of novelty. All the parts are well played. Miss Busley scored an individual hit. Plenty of laughter and close attention throughout. Strong finish. Special in 3, 26 minutes. (Indianapolis)
Two men in athletic number. A crackerjack act, and easily the best opener we have had this season. Held undivided attention throughout and took several encores, an unusual proceeding for an opener, here. Palace in 5, 11 minutes.
In the illusion, “Spirit Painting.” Fine number, capably presented. His line of talk is bright and entertaining. Reproduction of paintings. Had them all guessing. Held attention throughout and finished strong. Picture sheet in 1. C.D.F. in 3, 15 minutes. (Washington)
1 man, two women. Series of novelty dances all of which were well presented. People make good appearance and the act made good throughout. Finished strong. Garden in 5. 10 minutes.
