"Knockout" Brown has gained quite a bit of attention as the lightweight champion of the world - or to be more correct - "the holder of the title." "Knockout" and Ad Wolgast had their second tryout at the National Sporting Club, New York City. The sports writers are almost certain that "Knockout" "shaded" Wolgast.
At Hammerstein's, Joe Humphries did some announcing, revealing "Knockout's" first name is Valentine. Brown then fought three short rounds with "Young Terry." The boys wore ten ounce gloves, putting on a fast exhibition. The gloves prevented any real damage to the boys, although "Knockout" succeeded in starting the claret from the nostrils of his brother, Adam, who was acting as his sparring partner that afternoon. It was known that "Knockout" had supposedly told Young Terry he was going to put him on his back during the evening show, Young Terry arguing that it could not be done. The bout justified the truth of the argument.
If the newspapers will stick to "Knockout" and he stays away from fighters, he will surely draw attention in burlesque.
