Louis Doll, the musical director, is a good marksman, especially so with a squirt gun. As he plays the fiddle he keeps a water pail next to him with a "gun" ready to fire at Pat White. The chorus girls prance to and fro down stage. To nail White, the stream of water must pass between two chorus girls. Doll leaves the direction of the orchestra to the house leader while he does this contest. With two shows a day, Doll has become proficient; he can hit White upon any spot he may select. He hit him once in each eye, twice on the breast, once in the ear, and once on each arm - however not in his mouth. β€œThe actual labor was about equally divided; for, while White was compelled to dodge and jump around in his effort to escape the consequences of Doll's unerring aim, Doll was compelled to stoop down, fill the gun and stand up again to discharge the contents of his water-weapon.”
This was very comical to watch, as well as impressive. It is remarkable that Doll managed to never hit any of the chorus girls. Doll is β€œ the sure-fire water-gun manipulator of the world, eagle-eyed, iron-nerved and worthy of all praise as champion In his class.”
