The "Paytonized" version of "Lend Me Five Shillings" borders on a burlesque and that is just how the audience perceives it.. It is doubtful that James Madison Morton would recognize his brain child. The opening lines are recited so fast that it is difficult to understand what is being said. The main character Mr. Golightly (played by Payton) says a line that the audience finds a bit too true. It is something about going to a bar to order a half dozen quarts. The laughs came as a result of the erratic manner of the actor rather than the dialogue. The company includes E. M. Kimball, H. E. Mckee, Wm. A. Mortimer, Dick Campbell, Ray Owens, Mr. Howatt, Mable Griffin, Mable Stores, Mable Estelle and Alma Wise.
At the close, it received more than a half dozen curtains.
The chief supports, Kimball and Griffin, give a satisfactory performance, as does McKee.
