Show revolves around Valeska Surratt with plenty of costume changes, songs and minor dialogues. Between Miss Suratt’s sections there are a number of songs presented by a chorus of “chicks” and a number of dances are “slipped in.” Mr. Fletcher Norton is presented as the sub-feature, performing a piece with Miss Suratt in addition to a number of his own son
Miss Suratt songs include “Springtime,” “Winter,” and “When Broadway Was a Pasture.” Mr. Norton’s pieces include “The French Flip Flop” and a “society circus.”
The pacing of the show is problematic as it begins at a “race horse speed” but soon everything slows down including the music. The selection of chorus girls proves to be the biggest issue the girls, “none with good voices,” “ruin all the songs and music.” Overall Miss Suratt and Mr. Norton present a number of fine songs but it is simply “too long for its depth,” running 33 minutes.
