Miss Van wears two costumes, opening in white and changing to blue. Both are natty and well selected. Pearce dresses plain and looks good.
“Get a License” – The drop shows a stage door on one side and a beverage garage on the other. Miss Van emerged from the stage door with the orchestral introduction explaining she has retired from the production during a rehearsal quarrel. Pearce enters via the “gin mill” route. They do a series of talk, followed by a song by Pearce. Pearce then performed a soft shoe dance, with some exceedingly difficult steps. There is some more talk and then they finished with a song called “I’d Like to Take You Home With Me.” Miss Van gives the best version of a female “souse” seen around these parts in some time. The impersonation suits the lyrics well.
In some respects, the duo show a considerable improvement over the conventional team-act and in their little skit. They have a corking good closer, and fortunately it is not overdone. The act should go big on the small time and would fit well on a big bill.
