The company, headed by Clem Bevins as "Constable Pike, Detective," presents this pretentious offering. Ada Mitchell is the chief support. The sketch is a condensed version of the comic opera of the same name written by James A. Beall. The plot is based on Pintu (Bevins), the new emperor of the Island of Dreams. He must wed within three months of ascending the throne or be beheaded. Sang Foy (Mitchell), an American visitor, teaches him how to woo, but he elects to wed a foolish old maid. There are six chorus girls, with three costume changes.
The music is pretty and finely sung. No expense has been spared in the costuming. The production is excellent. Bevins plays the King Dodo character in a capable fashion while the rest of the cast fits in nicely. A bit of cutting is necessary, but the act was still immensely liked. It should prove to be a big success.
