Mabel Berra, a veteran of vaudeville, returns with a new act involving a “boy wonder” pianist who only plays classical tunes, “passing up rag entirely.” Berra performs five songs with a costume change for each.
Berra’s costuming are “pretty and becoming,” relying on “old fashioned costume.” While the changes in costume are welcome, the continued use of the same high boots for every costume should be avoided. The closing number has Berra in tights for a military song.
Miss Berra’s songs include a light number about walking in the park titled “Grandma’s Days,” another titled “Fishing,” and the crowd favourite “You’ll Have to Play the Organ if You Want to Make a Hit with Me.” The act proves to be a “high class selection” that “gave Miss Berra’s well trained soprano a chance, winning her “several real calls at the finish.”
