"A Lovely Liar" is said to be a reconstruction of May Irwin's "Mrs. Black is Back."
Chicagoans like Miss Dresser. One of the auditors was heard saying that it was "a pretty fair show."
With the proper material, Miss Dresser would almost certainly be a star. She has good looks, a splendid stage presence and an irresistibly charming personality. The play is inclined to drag. There may be brilliancy and action in spots, but this does not make a success. In all fairness and respect to the authors, "A Lovely Liar" is indeed a fair show, but in the days of competitive play building, it will not hold up.
