Singing and comedy. 12 minutes in (I). A very capable act with excellent choice of songs rendered with much dash and vigor, interspersed with comedythat [sic] attacks one’s risibilties [sic] in a most pronounced manner. Laughter reigns supreme during their appearance and their reception at the hands of last night’s audience was ovational to the last degree.
In ‘Vindication.’ 22 min. F.S. Mr. Keenan’s work is great in his character of a fire eating old Southerner. The act is dramatic and engrossing working up to a splendid climax and affording the star unlimited opportunities. Mr. Keenan is most ably supported by Mac. M. Barnes. The act is great big hit.
15 min. in one. Petite Prima Donna with well chosen program and some semi-classical songs. Splendid voice and pleasing personality. Going very well. Liberal applause after each number.
‘How Hoffmeister Did It.’ 26 minutes F.S. Special set. A rather pleasing German comedy with some amusing lines and situation, but by no means in the same class with Mr. Reinhold’s former vehicle, ‘Dinkelspiel’s Christmas.’ Went very well.
5 minutes in one. OP P. Drapery. This man claims to be suffering from a sore throat. Whatever may bex [sic] the trouble with him he did not get over in anything like the fashion he is reported to have gone over in other cities.
25 min, F.S. A local dancing instructor supported by a company of three and ‘a’ colored orchestra. While Jarvis is not an actor, he has surrounded himself with clever people and the early part having to do with different persons coming in to be taught dancing lessons very funny. The three dances introduced by Jarvis and his partner were excellent. The eleven colored musicians constituting ‘a’ orchestra were the worst in the world but by pruning out four of the eleven, will improve. After act gets worked out, will be better than a local attraction.
24 min, open in one, close F.S. Presenting ‘The Regular.’ A well written story, played quietly. Nugent’s ability to get his lines and points over brought excellent results. Story is interesting, holds close attention and the sentimental touch gives it a good finish. Plenty of laughs and the act was well liked.
25 min. F.S. Clever patter to music interloped with songs and dances. The technique, clothes and gowns of the artistic combine to make a charming, classy act, in spite of the surfeit of self advertisement in the patter. Going very well.
Chinese singing quartette. 15 minutes in one. A Chinese novelty. The men have as good voices as the average singing quartette. Their comedy is bad – their costumes are good. The ‘Harry Lauder’ number is, alone, worth the price of the act.
18 minutes, opening in one, special drop, going into full bare stage. ‘The Quakeress,’ a skit by William Collier and Herbert Winslow. Here is a real art – here is real personality – here is real refinement. Mr. Hyams is a comedian of the farce comedy type and lands every point with convincing adroitness. There isn’t any one on the stage daintier than Leila McIntyre. Their concluding number, a new waltz, is the quintessence of artistry.
