In our opinion, this is the best act Mr. Lasky has ever given us. Mr. Bergman and Miss Clark are at their best in this production and the supporting company and chorus are fine. Beautifully dressed and well staged. The songs are catchy and the situations pleasing. Altogether a decided hit. F.S.
Double wire act. Three girls, two men. A very pleasing, attractive and well-costumed act. They do their difficult feats in a rapid manner and received much applause. F.S.
“The Juvenile Entertainer.” The biggest kind of a hit, singing, talk, dancing and harmonica playing. Unique in every respect. “Floored ‘em” and ran things to suit himself. Best single number here for a long time. Street in 1, 13 minutes. (Nashville)
“Two Jolly Fellows.” A-1 performers wyo [sic] deliver excellent line of songs, dances, and talk. The Monday mat. bunch failed to take them for a time but finally realized that they were “regular” artists and then things livened up and they finished big. Thoroughly satisfactory. 16 minutes special in 1. (Toldeo)
“The Girl at the Piano.” Songs and instrumental numbers. A pretty hard spot for an act of this kind but she did quite well gaining and holding attention, winning some applause after each number and finishing moderately strong. O.K. Olio in 1, 10 minutes.
35 minutes f.s. Special set. This act got over in great shape here to-day. The “Bunty” and “Esquimo Rag” numbers are quite a novelty, and seemed to catch the fancy of the audience, while the entire production seemed to go very much better than it did in New York.
13 minutes in one. Olio. Newkirk is the humorist of the “Boston Post.” Probably the best known in New England. He has been doing a monologue at entertainments for a year or so, and to-day came in and surprised us all by getting it over in great shape for vaudeville. One feature of the act that probably appealed is that his material is out the beaten track, and made people laugh.
7 minutes in two. Garden. Two neat appearing young fellows who do some hand-to-hand balancing and acrobatics that started the show off in great shape this afternoon. A very good opening act that could down in the middle of the bill.
“The Test.” 16 minutes C.D.F. Two men, one woman and Mrs. Langtry. So much has been said about this sketch that a continuation of this subject would be simply repetition. The sketch is bad, has no action and the acting is without any merit whatever. The heroic action of the male members of the company comes as the result of one man calling another man’s wife by her first name and kissing her hand. Such heroics are considered “mock” by our audiences. Mrs. Langtry’s costuming of the act is really the principal part of the offering. (New York)
Full stage, 14 minutes. This is not a new act to Cleveland, having appeared previously at a cheaper house. They begin with a moving picture of the Australian woods, have a lecturer who’s fair, and work unusually hard during their time on the stage. The act in a novelty and gets considerable applause.
