Mr. & Mrs. Gene Hughes

Presenting the comedy ‘Suppressing the Press.’ It is remarkable how the old stand-by holds the audience. They held their own here today and received the usual amount of laughs finishing with several curtain calls. Twenty-four minutes. Full stage.

Robert Daily & Co.

In the comedy “Fun in a Trolley” with Mr. Daily as the conductor with various characters introduced by the company of nine, six men and three women.  There are great opportunities for development which will come by constant work.  The business and situations are original and excellent and brought forth many laughs.  Some parts of the act are rather crude but it may shape itself in time.  It is quite difficult for any comedy act to follow Evans, I never saw a performer go so big in all my life, which weakened Daily considerably.  Will place him earlier in the bill to-night.  Twenty Minutes Full stage.

George Evans

Greatest entertainer on the stage today.  Got the audience with him on the start-off and held them.  His work was one continual lot of laughs.  Laughing and applause hot od the show.  Twenty-seven minutes in One.

Our Boys in Blue

F.S. Special back drop with great cloud effects. Time 14. 18 men. This is a legitimate military offering which gives the audience a rare treat. The men go through the regulation drill, and manual of arms perfectly and with a snap that brings out applause all the time. Then there comes a little melodramatic touch in which a fake battleship is sunk with excellent effect. The gattling [sic] gun drill is a thriller. The best closing act we have had all season.

Curtis Palmer Co.

C.D.F. Close in 1. Time 17. One woman, two men. Presenting ‘Mama’s Darling Boy.’ This is a nonsensical sketch of the over grown boy type. There is a lot of rough, noisy comedy, which only gets an occasional hand. The singing toward the end is excellent and saves the act. The solos and the ensemble singing a got big reception.

Nellie Wallace

English comedienne. 16 min. in 1, 2 shows. On at 9:18. This woman was a decided and emphatic hit. We were very much in doubt as to how the Philadelphia would take her, after New York had thrown her a chill, and Boston gave her a welcome hand. But Wallace had not been on the stage three minutes before they saw that they had found a truly individual genius of humor in this woman, From that time on the jury could not seem to get enough of her. Each one of her song received a very flattering hand, and she was compelled to make her little speech. Thin there is no doubt at all of her success for the balance of this week. Press more than usually flattering.

Agnes Scott & Horace Wright

‘The Wall Between.’ 25 min. F.S. 2 shows. On at 8:11. This is a very pretty love sketch. The audience liked it and gave it respectful attention throughout, with four curtain calls at the finish, which is quite a record for such an unpretentious act. The action deals with flirtation over the garden well by two young people, interspersing some bright talk and some good Irish songs, excellently rendered. This sketch would go well anywhere. It is clean, wholesome and tender, and has all the Laura-jeanlieyans [sic] teary with sentimental ecstasy at the close.

Raffin’s Monkeys

18 min. F.S. 2 shows. On at 7:39. Same act as before practically, only better, because on the previous occasion Raffin had lost a couple of monkeys. On this visit he had the full compliment of eight or nine. Did the regulation barrel-jumping, trapeze work, tight-rope walking, etc, winding up with the disrobing act on the trapeze, and the high jump into a mat. Monkeys playing around on stage created a good deal of side laughter. The act is especially pleasing to the children.

Three Nightingales

Vocalists. 15 min. in 1, 3 shows. On at 7:07. Three children, two boys and a girl. Philadelphia act. Played here recently and made a much better impression then for the reason that to-day they introduced a berr-stein song with a simulation of drunkenness which is objectionable and was immediately cut. It is remarkable that people can be so short-sighted as to allow children to feature such a song, which fell dead. The little girl has a fine voice. The trio sings exceptionally well for such young performers, and make a good appearance. Closing hand was good.

Maybelle Meeker

On at 4:43, 9 min, full stage; 3 shows.  Rather a pretty girl with considerable magnetism.  She does an act that is a sort of combination of those of Belle Veola and Latina.  Shows a fine figure when she strips to tights.  Would gladly give her a better spot if possible.  No question but that she would make good in number one or number two in the smaller houses
