Mr. Hymack

On at 3:55, 8 minutes, full stage. Oh! That we could have him a second week. Novelties of this kind, that make people talk are extremely valuable to us. He will have the whole town asking ‘How does he do it?’ I agree with Mr. Lovenberg in his statement that the audiences pay no attention whatsoever to his patter, and if he dad the brightest material in the world it would be absolutely lost, for the people become so interested in his changes hat they don’t hear a word he is saying.

Harry Tighs and His Collegians

On at 2.38, 30 min, full stage. Candor compels me to state that this act duplicated the hit it made here last season, but personally I do not think that it is in as good shape as then, the two men and the girl being far inferior to their predecessors. There are possibilities in this act that Tighs has not realized yet; for instance, what an improvement it would be if he had four really good singer with him: he could work up a singing finish that would be a riot. A cleverer woman would also make a decided improvement. His answer to my argument with him on these points was that he couldn’t do it on the salary he is getting, as the people he had last season all demanded more money and he considers himself entitled to a larger salary than he figured on last season.

The B.A. Rolfe Company

Presents the miniature musical comedy ‘Paradise Alley.’ This is a very good act. Nine people, five girls and four men. The girls are all good looking, and they make several changes of costume all of which are good, and they are all good singers. Went very well. 23 minutes, full stage.

Kimball and Lewis

Grotesque acrobatic contortion comedy, pantomime and singing sketch. Man and woman. The man is good acrobat, but his comedy is no good. The woman is very good contortionist, and she is a fair singer. This act is all right to open the show. Went fair. 14 minutes, full stage. Three shows.

The Novellos

Circus act: 13 min. in F.S. On at 10:12. All that has been said of this act goes with a strong endorsement.  The elephants, ponies, and dogs are all remarkably trained, and the act moved with a real circus-like rapidity and sureness.  The elephants do everything what it is possible for elephants to do, and the acrobatic work is up to the true circus stand.  Open and close with a show parade. Great act.

Vesta Victoria

30 min, in 1. 2 shows. On at 9:42. Good advance hand.  Sang four songs, in different costume, each one with good effect.  I think on the whole that she went better than previously and that she will help fill the house this week.  The first part of her act seemed a little doubtful, but she gathers strength as she goes on, winding up with a big finish. In fact, her last song was quite an ovation.

Laddie Cliff

Eng. Com: 15 min, in 1. 2 shows.  On at 8:42. There was never a stronger it in this house than this.  He is an artist in voice, gesture, manner, in fact from every standpoint.  From the very first he got them strong and held them up to one of the biggest finishes I ever saw here.  Seven curtain calls and then compelled to make a little speech, which by the well, he did very neatly.  His selections of songs are typically English, but he has a way with him that would carry him with any audience.  Press very flattering.

Dankmar Schiller Troupe

Acro: 14 min. F.S. 2 shows.  On at 8:28. Three boys and three girls, with Dad in attendance.  This is a very novel and expert athletic act.  They do a lot of the regulation stunts of head-and-hand balancing, walking up steps, head-to-head, and a good many feats that remind one of the Uessens and other acts of that nature.  Much applause for excellent work.  Closed very well two curtain calls.

Three Mitchells

Col. S & D, 14 min. Open in 2, close 1, 3 shows. This act has gone back in some respects, but, from other standpoints it is improved since last appearance here. The woman not only sings the same selections, but appeared to be in bad form. The vocal numbers of the act and the comedy are shy, but the piccaninny made up with some very clever wooden-shoe dancing, and the man finished with some good acrobatic dancing that was strongly applauded. Those saved the act.

Richard Golden & Co.

Offering a new sketch ‘A Case of Divorce.’ There are two men and two women in this act. It is a pathetic little sketch of country life brightened every minute or two with Golden’s eccentric actions and odd sayings. It brought tears to the eyes of all the women in the audience and they laughed and cried frequent intervals. It is a very good act for the houses that like this style of act. Went very good here. Kitchen in four. 26 min.
