Alvin Brothers

Comedy Ring-act: 10min.  F.S. 3 shows.  On at 6:33.  Two men, one working straight and the other eccentric.  The work of both men on the rings is very good and got some scattered laughs.  Comedy is fairly good for an act of this kind, the clown taking a good many heavy falls and winning some scattered laughs.  On the whole, makes an acceptable opener.  Closed well.

Julian Eltinge

Mr. Eltinge is undoubtedly the best and most artistic impersonator of female types we have ever seen.  Full stage, but he closed in one for us.  His act would be better to close full stage.

Geo. B. Reno and Co.

Mr. Reno opened here Monday with his old acrobatic act and burlesque baseball finish, the company consisting of a boy and a girl, who are very good tumblers, a dwarf and a very thin giant.  The act was good and well received but we were very much disappointed as we expected the burlesque drill and wall scaling act.  We sent for Mr. Reno to come to the office and told him we were disappointed.  He said he was not doing the new act this season but if we wanted it would send to N.Y. for his extra people and put it on commencing today (Tuesday) which he did.  The act opens with a young woman who sings Vesta Tilley’s Algy song and she is assisted by Reno, a dwarf, the thin giant and the red haired fat man dressed in evening dress who burlesque the song while she sings.  This is followed by a march song and the quartette of men dressed as Zouaves appear in a burlesque drill and wall scaling finish that is very, very clever.  The act is twice as good as one as the old act and kept the audience laughing continually.  We are paying Mr. Reno a little more money for the new act and it is well worth it.

The Vivians

Sharpshooters. – Man and woman: Both do excellent work with guns and revolvers. – An act that went big and one that must be credited with making a most substantial hit.  Garden: 17 minutes.

Zeha Ezifr

A clevery little girl who sings three songs and does a dance to the entire satisfaction of all who hear and see her.  She opened the show but notwithstanding this fact made a distinct hit and would no doubt have gone better further down on the bill.  Opens in one and finishes in two.  – 12 minutes.

Overture

We find that where we open the doors at 1.30, an eight or ten minute overture is far more satisfactory than an act.

Fred Niblo

Well known Monologist who went very well, and got considerable laughter, but I am convinced that this expensive Monologue game is getting rather tiresome to the Audience, and quite a good many people left during this act altho’ early.  However Niblo went all right, and his appearance and personality carry great weight.  15 minutes in one.

The Five Majors

Another novelty here that went big.  Five men in English uniform.  Good looking fellows with good voices.  One of them is a corking good piano player and another knows how to sing a comic song splendidly.  This act has all our Quartette Acts “Knocked silly,” for the men are all good actors.  One of them does a good whistling specialty.  Closed to big applause.  12 minutes, full stage. Very short close in one.

Electric Crickets

Well known on the circuit, and made as good as usual.  Miss Seymour and Mr. Cripps were in good voice, and the girls all worked well.  The “Con” finish of this act is the main feature, and received several recalls.  18 minutes, full stage. Very short close in one.

Melville & Higgins

Man and woman, both comedy in singing and talking act.  One of my Thursday morning trial acts.  A really good three show act.  The girl is very funny, and made a hit with Geo. Evan’s Song “When My Ship Comes In”.  She has some new gage that went very well.  Their parodies are good.  15 minutes in one.
