On at 8.04, 26 min, full stage. Presenting “A Bachelor’s Dream”. It seems to me that this sketch is too long drawn out. I think it would be greatly improved if it could be condensed to about 18 min. However, I do not suppose that I shall ever see my wish gratified, as Miss Edouin states that she is going to rest for a season, and is to present a single act the following season. IF she does so, I venture to predict that she will more than make good, for I consider her a much cleverer entertainer than Katie Barry and a half-dozen other headliners whom I could mention.
On at 7.02, 9 min, full stage; 3 shows. A one-legged acrobat, who does some remarkable jumping. An act that is bound to improve, as he lacks showmanship at present. Would make a good opening act almost anywhere.
3 men. Unique Black Art Offering, entitled, “The Mysterious Hotel”. This is one of the best acts of its kind we have ever played here, and I don’t think any one can make a mistake in booking same. It is full of comedy from start to finish, and they are working hard every minute they are on. 11 minutes. Special set in black.
Including “Buster”. Repeating the same old act which is well known on the circuit. We have had some trouble here in regard to the 14 year child law, so had Mr Keaton go very easy in throwing “Buster” around the stage. Act went pretty good in this spot. 16 minutes full stage. Close in one 11 minutes. The extra time in one was done in order to give us plenty of time to set the Sleede’s Pantomime Co. Will cut this down to about 4 minutes.
Imitation of stage celebrities. This young lady is rather good looking, but at the present time very amateurish in her imitations. She does imitations of od Edna May very bad. Marrie Dressler fair: see cohen bad; Anna Held, is really the best thing she does. She closes her act singing poor Jogn which I suppose is an imitation of Vesta Victoria, as I have not seen her but assure you if Miss Victoria does not do this song better she would not be entitled to the salary she is getting. 17 minutes in one.
A remarkable little play that made a big hit, and I know will be talked about. The plot is novel, and it is splendidly acted, especially by Miss Hope, and the young man who plays the Heavy part. The Policeman is also very good. Every detail is perfect and the piece has been rehearsed most carefully. This act will draw big business, and is well worth the money for a novelty. 27 minutes, full stage. Special Scenery which has seen better days.
the well known cartoonist “Silas.” Another hit, but not worth the money for this house. His work is very artistic, and I know his name is worth a good deal, but he did not get applause worthy of his salary. 19 minutes in 2 ½.
Judging this act from a musical standpoint it certainly is queer. As a vaudeville act it is a corker. This fellow – Gennaro – as Director has got all the mannerisms of the various crazy conductors and a few of his own. The Band is lined up on both sides of the stage and the Director takes the entire center for his work and he needs all the room he can get. Their playing of patriotic airs aroused the audience to a high pitch of enthusiasm and everyone going out said it was immense. A splendid closing feature. 35 min. full stage 3 shows.
I might term this lady a freak vocalist. From a musical standpoint her voice would not bear much analysis. From a vaudeville standpoint, it is a great act and she scored the biggest kind of it. Her imitations of the violin is the best thing of the kind I ever heard. 12 min. in 1, 2 shows.
Another disappointing feature. Couple of pretty girls who dance only passably and who do not sing well at all. Act would be all right second in the continuous houses at about $60.00 or $75.00 at the very most. At $100 it is a gold brick. 10 min. in 1, 3 shows.
