Two rather good looking young girls who make a mean appearance and in a small way do some quite clever work in the way of dancing and contortion with a little singing added. Thoroughly all right from a three a day standpoint. 11 min. in 1, 3 shows.
Young man and two girls, one young lady playing the piano the other two violins. Young man is a better violinist, in my estimation, than Mr. Voelker. They play solos and duets. Act is good one for the Keith circuit, especially in the continuous houses. It is worth $100 on three shows to start. I can recommend them at this figure. I put them on as a trial act to open the show here this week. They received liberal applause. It is a good act for 8:15 in the continuous houses that like good violin music. CDF in 3, close in one, 13 minutes.
The girls are all very pretty. Handsomely gowned. Make an excellent appearance. Quite a relief from the ordinary vaudeville. Truly Shattuck was strongly applauded for her vocal work and the girls received a good share of applause for the dancing. Presume they will draw a little money. 20 min, full stage.
Instrumentalists. 3 women. Make a very neat appearance. Act consists of a harpist, violiniste [sic] and vocalists. The instrumental work is good. Vocalists has a pleasing voice, no great amount of volume. Selections are good. The act was greatly appreciated and is alright if not on too late. 13 min in two. Could work in one, 2 shows.
Minstrel men. One works straight, the other blackface. Made a strong kick for two shows. They have gone backwards since the last time. Just about got by to-day and only capable of opening the show. 12 min. in one, 3 shows.
2 shows, 21 min, open in 2, close in 1. This man got a big advance reception showing that our newspaper advertising had reached them in excellent shape. He played three selections and an encore in 1, every selection went tremendously strong and he was forced to come before the curtain to bow repeated acknowledgments. Will keep him down to two selections and an encore for tonight and the balance of the week.
2 shows, 12 mins in 1. Clever juvenile impersonator. Well-known on the circuit. She has a lively dash about her that got our audience at the outset today and all her impersonations were strongly applauded. Responded to three recalls.
While this act introduced nothing new or novel in the way of animal training, it comprises some very good somerset dogs, and introduces a toy ferris wheel, and a merry-go-round, which makes it very interesting for the children. It is too short, however, to be of any real value for the money. 12 mins, gar in 4.
A dramatic society from the University of Pennsylvania, in a Shakespearean sketch entitled, ‘The Conspirators.’ The men are very good for amateurs, but at the last moment the lady who rehearsed at first was taken sick, and her understudy played the part. She was very bad indeed, and her work turned the sketch that would have been a success into one that hardly more than pleased. On account on their local following, will keep them in the show, but earlier on the bill. 21 min, spec.
Instrumentalists, singers and dancers. Twelve young ladies. Making a very nice appearance. Act was fully described in previous criticism. Rather rough in construction and far from being a feature act for this house. Just about got by to-day. 27 min, full stage, 2 shows.
