Four Dunbars

Casting act. These people do some good work and introduce in the act some good comedy. For that reason, in view of the novelty having gone from the acrobatic portion of this work, I prefer this team to any of the others although their casting, of course, is no tin line with the Lukens. 10 min, full stage, 2 shows.

Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Barrie

The man of this team is a very clever comedian who is decidedly handicapped by the lady. She is absolutely ‘excess baggage’ and aside from this is detrimental to the act. For that reason I can’t use them. The act went well in spots where he was doing something individually, but finished rather tame. 23 min, close with about 5 min in one, 2 shows.

English Girls

Enter dressed in short black skirts and do a lively song and dance. Then six appear in a tambourine and acrobatic dance. Then two appear in an Irish dance and costume. (This directly conflicts with the Fraser Trio.) Then six appear in the ‘radium dance’ – white costumes treated with phosphorus. This did not amount to much, and hardly received a hand. The act will change places with Jit Jitsu. A good billing novelty, and that lets it out. 11 mins, gar in 5.

Jiu Jitsu

A demonstration of the Japanese art of self-defense by four Japanese and a Japanese lecturer, who also works. A great drawing card here and a mighty good act. A real novelty, and a very interesting act. 13 mins, spec drop in 4.

Al Fields

Monologue. 16 minutes in one. Mr. Fields is going very well. His parodies are very good but his talking is only fair. He is inclined to be just a little rough. Mr. Fields was laying off here and we put him in place of Four Huntings who did not arrive owing to some misunderstanding about the date they were booked here.

Valerie Bergere and Co.

In “His Japanese Wife”. Interior in three, 30 min. Miss Bergere carries a number of articicial [sic] flowers, screens, etc. which help make a beautiful setting. This is one of the best sketches we have ever played. Her support is good. I wish we had more artists in vaudeville who are as painstaking in their work as Miss Bergere.

Sydney Deane & Co.

In ‘Christmas on Blackwell Island.’ 18 minutes. This act is going very big. They are compelled to respond to several encores at the close of every act. I consider the singing fully as good as their act of last season and it goes much better with the audience since they cut out the sac-religious parts.

Mme. Adelaide Herrmann

2 shows, 28 min, full stage. This woman has all her competitors beaten to a standstill, when all the points in her act are fairly considered. It is sumptuously staged, magnificently costumed, she is graceful in all her movements and has just ability enough to ‘make good’ with her illusions without overdoing anything. She was enthusiastically applauded at the close of her act.

Julian D. Eltinge

2 shows, 13 min, full stage. Received an immense hand when he came on, showing clearly that he had drawn a large number of the audience, or at least was popular with the majority. He is a great artist, better than Stuart or any of the rest of that class, for his act is absolutely without suggestion. He is a good singer and an artistic dancer, and his every number was encored.

TenBrookes and Lambert

2 shows, 23 min, full stage. In their comedy and musical sketch, ‘Prof Schmaltz’s Academy,’ in which they scored a great hit the last time they were here. Today was no exception, the comedy getting lots of laughs, Miss TenBrooke being encored for singing and Lambert compelled to repeat everything he played on the piano or violin. For Boston this is a great act.
