Wm. Gould & Valeska Surratt

Songs & monologue. They may command a big salary on account of their names, and they probably would draw some money in the cast where they are known, but out this way, never. The act consists of all singing and talking. The jokes are old, and the songs are nothing great. It’s just a fair act, and for Cleveland, not worth the price. They ask for full stage, but can work in one just as well as not. Time 15 minutes full stage.

Jas. F. McDonald

In songs and monologues. His singing is better than his talking. Most of the stories he tells have been told here a dozen times this season. He’s only good enough for an early option on the bill, and I wouldn’t care to play him again. Time 15 minutes in one.

Arthur and Mildred Boylan & Co.

Woman and two children boy and girl, 12 and 14 years in a dainty little playette, entitled ‘Jack & Jill.’ The children are clean cut little youngsters, with good delivery and the mannerisms of older performers. The act is entensley [sic] interesting throughout, with several good laughs and closes with a very clever acrobatics number by the children, which received the biggest lot applause up to this time. The children are the cleverest child performers we ever had. They received two curtain calls at the finish, with three to-night. At the price the act is the best we have ever had and should be booked for the circuit with return engagements. Full stage, two shows, twenty-four minutes.

Geo. Hussey

This man’s ventriloquial work is good, his material is very bad, he has secured some of A.O. Duncan’s act with one of Travollo’s figures. Secured a few laughs and just about passes in this place. Twelve minutes, full stage, three shows.

Morton, Temple & Morton

Two men and a woman. A bad steal from Fitzgibbons, McCoy Trio. Call themselves comedy acrobats. Didn’t see any acrobatic work. Simply a crazy song and dance act, with some fool talk and a few ordinary flip-flaps. Wouldn’t want the act again here at any price. Cut out speech to the audience where the comedian (?) says: ‘I’ll applaud for you.’ 12 mins, landsc. 4-1/2. Close in one.

Padettes

2 shows, 60 min, full stage. Increased to 40 members. The same style of popular selection as on previous occasions. There has been some changes in the roster of the organization; the more noticeable one being the loss of the drummer girl. Every member was encored enthusiastically and they clamored for more.

Jean Marcell’s Picture

Some of the pictures are very good. Others are not so good He has two old ones. One called ‘Angelus’ and the other ‘Morning of Life,’ which on his last visit here was called ‘Spring.’ His picture called ‘Holland Interior’ and ‘Achille’ [sic] are the best of the new ones. In his picture ‘The Volunteers’ and the ‘Call to Arms’ I believe his coloring is bad. I don’t think that these series of pictures, as a whole, are so great. He’s got to do better than that, if he wants to make a success of them. Time 17 minutes stage.

Daisy Dimond

In songs. This woman is just going fair. She is singing one of the songs sung here by Nora Bayes. Miss Bayes made a big hit with it, and this woman didn’t. Her other selection are too draggy, there’s nothing to them. If she had other songs, I think she would go considerably better. However, this act is above the average. Time 12 minutes in one.

Marvelous Frank and Little Bob

Comedy acrobatic act. A very good act. Marvelous Frank does some very good stunts on the horizontal bar, and Little Bob and his acrobatic dog ‘Tip’ made a big hit. Their finish on one, which runs about 7 minutes, is one of the best part of their act. They went very strong. Time 17 minutes full stage.

Metcalf & Paddock

Musical act. These are local boys. They have some very fine instruments, and rather expect before the week is out it will work into a first-class act. They had a bad case of stage fright yesterday. The act runs about 17 minutes with 4 minutes in one, if necessary.
