Magician. Card and ball manipulating fairly good, balance of his work very ordinary. Good opening act. Fifteen minutes in two, can work in one.
Man and woman in the non-sensical burlesque entitled ‘The Fall of Fort Arthur.’ While this act is well known over the circuit it was the first time for it this house. The act is funny all right and so impressed our audience, but it is very rough from start to finish. Cut ‘under the pillows they are creeping,’ and ‘go to h-ll.’ Don’t care to see them again for a long while. While the people laugh while it is on, it did not make a favorable impression as I know from comments made by people going out. It is not an act of the calabre [sic] our audiences are accustomed to. 13 mins. Spec in 4.
Jane Courthope supported by Chas. Forrester in the farsical [sic] sketch entitled, ‘A Fisherman’s Luck.’ The sketch is based on the old story of the husband deceiving the wife. While it amounts to little in itself it affords a good vehicle for Miss Courthope and Mr. Forrester to display their talents as comedians. The situations are ridiculous, the action rapid and both people are clever. While it left but little impression, the laughter throughout was practically continuous and it may be rated a good act. 23 min. Yellow F. in 3.
Singing and talking comedians. This team is made up of Vidocq, of the old firm of Haines and Vidocq, and Barry Thomson well known in burlesque. The act is modeled after the old one of Haines and Vidocq and much of the material is the same. Made out all right to-day going especially strong with the upstairs patrons. Good act at the price. 23 mins. Adv. St. in 1.
Instrumentalists and vocalists. These young ladies are young, attractive, modestly dressed, and are good musicians. The act is fully as good as when Sam Weston worked with the girls. Rather quiet and should not be put on too late. Made a favorable impression on to-days audience. Good act. 17 mins, C.D.Red in 3.
Hoop jugglers. Two men and a woman, one of the men doing a comedy as a rube kid. These people work well, do some stunts, and in fact next to Everhardt, are the best hoop rollers we have had in the house. Comedy introduced is all right. Frequent applause during the act, and a strong hand at the finish. Mighty good act. 12 min. Blue Gar in 3.
Young man and woman in a little playlet, entitled, ‘The Burglar’s Kit.’ While these young people are fairly clever they both have a bad tendency to overact, which they may overcome in time. The play itself is a sort of a minature [sic] ‘Raffles’ and is not at all bad, although it is rather too serious for vaudeville, and the comedy end should be worked up more. Seemed to hold our audience this afternoon and received a fair hand at the finish. 20 mins, Greef F in 3.
Man and woman presenting a sketch entitled ‘A Daughter of the Gods.’ Neither Mr. Godfrey or Miss Henderson can act. The sketch is one of those dream affairs so often met with in vaudeville. There are some bright lines and some long passages. There are a great many better sketches and better players in vaudeville, and a few who are worse. 23 min, FS.
While I cannot see this act even with binoculars the people who pay their money appear to enjoy every minute of it. Of course Buster is the act and without him it would not be worth 15 cents. At the opening performance they held the stage 30 minutes but the manager made them out 10 minutes off it at the night performance.
2 shows, 24 min in 1. Well-known blackface comedian. Had a new line of material and he was laughed at and applauded throughout, although he was a trifle coarse about it. Will shave four minutes from his act which will be an improvement. Cut reference ‘grand trunk’ to the bust of a woman.
