In their dramatic comedy. ‘A Yankee’s Love Dixie.’ 4 men, women and little colored boy. The sketch is quite novel. It contains a number of good laughs and is very interesting. Mrs. Crane’s dialect as a Southern girl is very good. Received a big lot of applause on the finish. 24 min. full stage, 2 shows.
Man and woman. Singing and talking comedy. Woman’s voice does not amount to much, although she makes a pleasing appearance. Man portrays a character of a shadow-consumptive, which is a detriment to the act, and has a powerful talking voice. Some of his material is good, and they secure several scattered laughs, but are unable to hold them. They close with a little applause and are not strong enough for this place on the bill. The act is rather rough on the burlesque order. 13 min in one, 3 shows.
‘The Bell-Boy and the Dancing Maid.’ Acrobatic talking, singing and dancing. The man’s acrobatic work is very good. The woman is a little awkward. Received more applause for the poddle [sic] dog’s posing in one then they did for their entire act. 15 min, full stage, close in one, 2 shows.
Club jugglers. Open with a little singing which is very bad. Man changes to a German character, while the women impersonates a tough girl. The [sic] do some very ordinary club juggling. The woman manages to score a few laughs for her slang phrase. A little too strong down in this place. Will change them to open the show to-night. 17 min, full stage, 3 shows.
2 shows, 31 min, open full stage, close in 1. Eight men and three women in a spectacular military fantasy in three scenes. Went very well in this spot today before an extremely ‘frosty’ audience and there is no doubt but what they will go all right tonight and during the rest of the week.
2 shows, 20 min, full stage. Assisted by Allan Murnane, Chas. Kenyon, DeWitt Newing. There has been but one change in the cast of characters since I saw it at the Union Square. Murnane is but little better than his predecessor, and the play could be considerably improved with fair people in the parts. The piece in itself seems all right but I should not care to have it again with the same cast under any circumstances. The finish which is quite exciting, just about lets the piece out.
The man in this act does some very good contortions work and some novelties in the way of acrobatic dancing. The sketch amounts to little and the woman is excess baggage. The clever work of the man, however, makes it an exceptionally good three a day act. 15 minutes in 3.
This handsome singing comedienne was given a big advance applause at the matinee, and at both performances she scored as big as any act of this king we ever played. She has all new songs and everyone is a hit. 15 min in one.
In sketch ‘The Yellow Dragon.’ Well known on the circuit. First time in this house and was well received. However, we have a thoroughly good, swiftly running show ahead of the sketch and it is not a feature of the show by any means. Good act. Drew’s name may draw some money. While the act held the interest of the audience throughout, it did not close to any great amount of applause. CDF in 4. 20 minutes.
Two girls and a man. The old lady is not with them this trip, one of the girls playing the piano in her place. They have changed the routine of the act which improves it although the older girl is working very little, the bulk of the work falling on the younger one. A very good act this house. CDF in 3, 13 minutes.
