Eight handsome young women headed by Truly Shattuck. This is one of the most pleasing numbers I ever witnessed. It is richly costumed and to my way of thinking is better than the original octette in ‘The Prince of Pilsen.’ 19 min, FS.
10 minutes, full stage, interior. Restaurant scene. They have a very hard place on the bill, closing the shows, and are only going fair with us. I think their act is entirely too slow, mush slower than during their first engagement with us. I intend to tell them tonight that I think it would improve their act to do it much faster.
20 minutes, full stage, closing in one 3 minutes. Miss Loftus is going very well with us and is surely improving our business. Miss Loftus is one of the most agreeable stars we have ever played, being anxious to do anything that would improve her act or the business of the house. She draws a class of people who are not regular patrons of vaudeville and I feel sure that with the show we are giving them this week we will be able to retain as regular patrons a larger percentage of people.
Opening in one about 10 minutes, then to full stage. Wood. This is the third time we have played this act and I do not hesitate to say that it is going better than at any former engagement here. The act is very neat, the electric display making a great picture, and the girls good musicians. Taken as a whole, I consider it one of the best musical acts we have in vaudeville.
14 minutes. Garden. Female impersonations and character changes. This is undoubtedly the best act of the kind that I have ever seen and he is going very big with our patrons, much better than on his first appearance here two years. He is compelled to take several bows at the close of his act during every performance.
Olio in one, 3 shows, 10 minutes, singing and violin playing. Miss Ravenscroft is appearing at 8:10 with us and going very. I consider her one of the best three a day act in the business and would not hesitate to recommend her to number two on any bill.
2 shows, 25 min, full stage, close in 1. Instrumental, singing and dancing specialties, presented in three scenes: 1, Indian Camp; 2, Aboard Ship; 3, Interior. Between the full stage portion they introduced a violin solo and whistling imitations by May Evans. Went very well today and it will unquestionably go big tonight. Did not open in 1, but can close in 1, if needed.
2 shows, 22 min, open full stage close in 1. The burlesque specialty, ‘A Vaudeville Surprise.’ Introducing a scene from ‘Ingomar,’ which was followed closely with much attention throughout. I think their singing and dancing close in 1 takes considerable from the effect of the act. Will shift them around with Ward and Curran.
2 shows, 9 min, full stage (will work him in 1 hereafter.) The dog behaved much better today in the matter of facial expressions than when I saw him in New York, and his characters aroused considerable laughter. To my mind, it does not seem as though it would prove exceptionally strong, but nevertheless, we will try it later on the bill tonight.
3 shows, 13 min, full stage. Finger shadowgraphists. They work in full view of the audience with the screen at their rear, and although we have had lately Chassino and Mr. and Mrs. Darrow, these people went very well today.
