This act was somewhat disappointing. They have quite a number of instruments, and make a good showing, but their music is not very attractive, either from a high grade or from a vaudeville standpoint, and they fell very short of making a hit. 18 Min. Open Full Stage. Can do a short close in One. 2 shows.
This girl has a very fair appearance and lots of assurance but her voice is very metallic. Still, from a 3 a day standpoint she may be classed as fair, but should be used only in an early part of the bill. 8 Min. in One. 3 shows.
15 min. in one – Two coons, regular coon act in one. With lawsuits on our hands, and “niggers” insisting on boxes and front orchestra seats, I think perhaps Mr. Albee will cut out the coon acts in the future. We do not need them, and they draw an element here that we do not want to cater to. Had more trouble to-day on the opening, and had to sell front seats to coons, which drives away the regular patrons.
12 min – Special set – And her horse, in living art studies. The horse poses perfectly. Nearly every picture was applauded. The waits between the poses were unusually long, and this had a tendency to make the audience restless. Will go better to-night.
15 min. in one – A clean cut, nice looking, well dressed performer—but he should get someone to write him a bright monologue. He has some Marshall P. Wilder jokes—the parlor kind—and he waits like Wilder for the laughs. He gets a few, but with good stuff he could do 100% better. Received a hand.
25 min. – C.D.F. in 3 – “A Cigarette Case.” The act starts off well, with bright talk—then seems to be good in spots until the rough-house windup is reached. Plenty of action in spots, but at times the act seems to drag. On the whole it went well. Would go better earlier. Not as good as their old act.
15 min. – Open in one – Fancy in 2 – close in one – Monologue and imitations. Time had hard work delivering his stories. Seemed to forget the run of the stories, and frequently went back to repeat. His imitations did not take well. He is not strong enough for the place, and may be pushed up on the bill.
19 min. – Palace in 4 – Man and woman, in a dancing act. It is in a class by itself. We have nothing like it in this country from which to draw comparison. New, graceful, well dressed, and –a novelty. The woman is petite and dainty; man is a good comedian. Made a hit with their windup.
15 min. – Kitchen in 3 – close in one – Four men, in a school room scene, a la Al. Leech. A crazy sort of a talking act—but it gets the laughs. One of the men has a good tenor voice. The whole quartette went well, the audience evidently liking their singing as well as their comedy. Two of the four are good dancers. Act is good.
15 min – Spec. set in 2 – close in one – Man and woman, in a comedy sketch, “The Bell’Boy’s [sic] Troubles.” They carry special set. Man has some bright talk and clever jokes. They indulge more in singing than in comedy. A good act. It could be made better, for both have ability, and could handle good stuff. Received a good hand.
