15 min, in 1. “The Premier Female Ventriloquist” is far from being a beauty, and her gowns are very tawdry. Her “wheezes” are very English and are of the vintage of 1876. Her work as a ventriloquist is good.
Ventriloquist. This man keeps up to date and uses a lot of local stuff. However, it is a strange coincidence that the ventriolquists seem to be traveling in bunches. This man can hardly attempt to follow Ed. Reynard, bit that Reynard is a better ventriloquist, but that Reynard had a great deal better stage setting and a great deal of novelty in his act. Duncan got quite a good many laughs today and went well. CDF in 3, close in one. 17 minutes. Cut out ‘more fish.’
2 shows, 13 min in 1. Mimetic and singing comedienne with a pleasing personality. She opens with a quiet little song and then impersonates several English favorites and Vernon, the ventriloquist. Went big in this spot this afternoon coming before the curtain three or four times to bow acknowledgment. Will shift with Geo. Day for tonight.
Ventriloquist: 18 min. F.S. 2 shows. This man is certainly a genius in his line. He kept the audience in roars of laughter all through his act. Breaks entirely away from the beaten track of ventriloquists. His versatility in imitations and various cries of babies and animals is remarkable. He could hold any place on the bill. Received prolonged hand at the close. He is a splendid feature for any house.
Ventriloquist. While this man may have superiors in the ventriloquial line, he easily leads them all in the material he presents, always having something new and up to date. Received a good hand on his entrance, and was the first act on the bill to wake up a sleepy house. Scored many big laughs, and closed to strong applause. A hit to-day and always in this house. 19 mins. CDF 2 ½ close 3 mins. 1.
Ventriloquist. This man has some pretty good stuff and pleased the audience who were evidently waiting for something to happen after the first two acts. Very good from a 3 a day standpoint. 20 min. open in 3, close in one, 3 shows.
Ventriloquist. This man is a pretty fair ventriloquist comedian. He has quite a lot of good material. Best part of it is old, but he manages to deliver it in such a way as to secure a big lot of laughs. It is a mighty good act for three shows a day. 21 min, full stage, close in one in about 5 mins.
3 shows, 12 min. in one—Mimetic comedian and storyteller—not a bad ventriloquist. He is a nice clean looking chap, and his act always goes well here. He could easily stand for a better place than we have been able to give him in the bill.
AR 3. Ventriloquist. This man has some good figures and is the best dialect performer that I have ever seen in a ventriloquist, but he is not an exceptionally good comedian and suffers by comparison with Duncan, who was here last week. It is a very fair act from a three-show-a-day standpoint. 11 minutes, full stage.
GHR 2. There is no question but that Duncan is the best ventriloquial comedian in this country, if not in the world. He keeps abreast of the time always and invariably puts into his act material that shows his familiarity with the daily happenings of local and national interest. There are, of course, better ventriloquists, mechanically speaking, than he, but I have yet to see one who leaves an audience so thoroughly satisfied. 20 minutes, open full stage, and close in one.
