Eccentric and character singing and dancing. The character work of the world went very strong, the singing of Miss Kingston is excellent. The act contains some bright lines and scored many laughs. They open and close in one, making the act valuable. Twenty-six minutes, two shows.
YHR 2. Four men in a comedy and singing act. Two of these men are members of the original Gotham comedy Quartette and have been in England for several years. They have come back with two English performers and are only over here about six weeks – their visit being mainly on account of one of the Americans wanting to see his people. They return shortly and were very anxious to get a week or two while here with a view for further work. They all make several changes during the progress of the sketch, and the English half of the team is decidedly the better, one of the men playing an elderly maiden lady and the other a funny, slightly exaggerated English dude. These two are responsible for the larger part of what comedy there is in the act, and they certainly did make people laugh this afternoon. I only have them booked for one week and prefer to look them over again before I give a positive recommendation of the act for they were unquestionably extremely nervous this afternoon. At that, the act was a laughing hit, but seemed to sag in spots a little, and judged from their first performance their singing is hardly up to the standard of our American quartettes. 26 minutes, full stage.
NR 3. Comedy singing and bicycle act. This fellow is really clever. He has a good idea of humor, sings a song well and does some good bicycle stunts. He makes up as a tramp and opened with the old song entitled “O, what a Beautiful Dream,” to which he has added a number of new verses which enable him to respond to half a dozen encores, finishing his act with his comedy bicycle work in which he does some very funny falls. 12 minutes, full stage.
HR 3. Irish singer and comedian. Joe is another “three turner” who can be classed all right simply because he does not do anything very bad. He sings two or three songs, tells some stories and gags, and does a little dance, all of which, while not very extraordinary, passes by all right. 11 minutes in one.
NH 3. Irish Comedians. These men sang parodies which went very nicely. They have rather coarse, harsh voices, but they put a good deal of life and exertion into their work and manage to create a lot of laughter. It is essentially a three-show act and only good in an early place on the bill. 19 minutes in one.
They are very good singers, but poor comedians. Full stage, close in one. Time 15 minutes.
Singing comedienne. This woman’s voice will not cause any sensation, her appearance will carry her. She is rather attractive and wears some elegant costumes. At the salary she is alright for an early place. Twelve minutes in one, three shows.
Singing Comedienne. This woman’s voice doesn’t amount too very much, her selections were very bad. Her closing burlesque German song just about saves her. Eleven minutes in one, three shows.
3 shows, 16 min. in 1. Singing and talking comedians, one working straight and the other in eccentric makeup. An immense improvement in every way upon Moran and Markey, and all right in their place on the bill.
Their singing is very good, the comedy bad (we had them cut it out). All in one. 12 min.
