12 min. F.S. There is no originality in this sketch. To the woman makes two changes of costume. There is a little singing and some fairly good acrobatic work by the men, but the comedy upon which they rely to make the act interesting, is lacking. They use all the old laugh-getters – the slap-stick, snap rubber in the face, the boquet with the string, the coat-iron cigar etc. Got very few laughs and went off with a small hand.
English comedienne. This girl is quite clever, but I question (considering her from an important standpoint) as to whether she was understood by the audience, her English style of comedy being somewhat foreign to them. She went fairly well however and there is no fault to be found. Thoroughly all right from the three a day standpoint. 12 min in one, 3 shows.
Two women, eccentric comediennes. I can’t understand why a great amount of fault was found with this act in our Western houses. The act is not a sensation, but the women have lots of personality, sing well – the class of music they attempt – and one of them is really funny. Got some little applause on their songs and the comedy got as much laughter as we should expect from an act of that kind, at that price. It is barley possible that they are being paid $35.00 too much, but an act that can open and close in one, has its value and probably we are expected to pay a little more for acts of that kind. It should not be placed on the bill later than 8 o’clock in the continuous houses and about number two in the two a day houses. 18 min. 3 shows.
2 shows, 21 min. in 2 (can close in 1). First time here for this singing and comedy act. Went splendidly, and I think it will prove one of the big hits of the bill before the week is very old, as it is just the sort of stuff that pleases patrons of this house.
Voc. & Com. – 17 min. in 1. Close in 2. 2 shows. On at 8:23. Mainly burlesque on Vesta Victoria. The costuming of this act is very grotesque and the travesty on Victoria’s songs are amusing, but by no means a scream, owing doubtless to the fact that Victoria was here only last week and the songs are not changed in any way from the original except in the last song where “Waiting at the Church” was sung in German. This was a hit. Good applause at the finish with curtain call. Something of a disappointment to our audience and went up the line after the first performance. At the night performance they were almost a hit in their new position on the bill.
Well known. Singing comedienne. Impersonates a child. Sang four songs, each one going fairly good. Entirely too much money for an act of this nature. 15 min.
