In “Held Up.” These boys went excellently all the way through and must be given credit for achieving an unqualified hit. Nothing left to be desired. Special set in 1, 19 minutes.
This act got along fairly well and the finishing song of Deane was quite a hit, demanding an encore. The act would no doubt have gone better had it not been seen here several times before. 18 minutes, special set in 1.
Eccentric singers. Three men in a very pleasing vocal act with special drop in 2. Make their appearance attired as cowboys and sings a couple of good songs. Their voices blend nicely and a little comedy is introduced. Make three changes of costume, closing full stage after third number through entire act could be done in 1. The act should be worked as a straight singing act with all attempts at comedy eliminated. Time 15 min.
Sang a number of character songs, the “tough number” finish taking them away in great shape. They were compelled to respond with several bows. 17 minutes, interior in 2.
Singing comedienne. Single women have a rather hard time of it here but this one got her audience right at the start this afternoon and held them with her four songs. She makes an attractive appearance and sings well and will do nicely in an early spot on any bill. Olio drop in 1. Time 12 min.
That these men have drawing value was proven by the big advance hand on their entrance, something exceedingly rare in this theatre. To say they made a hit would be putting it mildly. I am sure I never heard as much spontaneous and general applause as they received for any at that ever appeared in this house. the audience simply refused to let them go after 18 min. they usually worked in One. I am giving them full stage here in order to makes it look more pretentious.
Singing comedian. 10 minutes in 1. Looks pretty, sings her songs fairly well and held the next to closing place all right.
Composers, comedians and singers. The unquestioned hit of the show this afternoon from the standpoint of applause. Of the numerous acts of this kind I have seen this one compares favorably with any and is just a little different than the rest. They have a good line of patter between their songs and it seemed as though today’s audience could not get enough of the singing. Was obliged to cut some of their songs (a new one just written) dealing with the troubles of an old man who has married a young woman. The latter discovers that her husband is not as useful as he once was and wants a divorce. A bully song for Lucy Weston, Daisy Harcourt and others of that type but not for Union Hill. Street in 1, time 29 min.
“Before and After.” Neat appearing young man and a very pretty young woman in one of the best singing acts we have played this season. This act, I am certain, will prove a sure fire hit on any bill and could go much further down on the bill and make good. Not only is the act classy but their comedy finish is good for a number of good laughs that takes them off to a great round of applause. Olio drop in 1. Time 14 min.
Singing comedienne. Full stage. A beautiful girl with a splendid voice and costumes. She has four excellent songs, which she knows how to sing, thereby making a hit with each.
