The act was nineteen minutes long.
The trio sings around a comedy sketch structure. The background is a steamer ready to sail with the gangplank lowered. One of the men plays a “cissy” purser and the others are a sailor and a bum. They talk and strive for comedy before they begin the singing portion. They then sing a few comedic songs.
Hughie Jennings and Ben Smith
This act entitled “The New Mascot” was twenty-one minutes long.
Hughie Jennings is a famous baseball player who plays himself in this short song and conversation act. Jennings wears civilian clothes and meets Ben Smith who is in blackface. Jennings agrees that Smith will be the new mascot for the Detroit tigers and goes to change into his baseball uniform. While he does that, Smith tells some stories and sings in a “sweet lyric tenor voice.” Jennings returns, gives an “Eh Yah’ rooting exhibition”, and monologues about the players of old. For the finish, they sing a duet.
Mayer and Froma
The act was nine minutes long.
The girl begins a song and is interrupted by hammering backstage. She pulls out her partner, who acts as a stage carpenter and they do some crossfire talk. She makes him sing by threatening that the stage hands will get even with him if he doesn’t. They finish with a “goblin” song.
Corcoran and Stone
The act was twelve minutes long.
A man and a stylish tall blonde open with comedic talk, which is full of puns. The woman begins the act in a white suit and changes to a pretty pink dress.
