Simon & Shields Co.

Presenting “High Life in Jail.” Six men in the act. Scene is the interior of a prison. There are a lot of good comedy lines but in spots the act is a little tiresome. Generally speaking, it went very well. The whole thing is a satire on prison life, the participants being ex-bankers, magnets of various kind, etc. A moderately strong finish. Special set in 4, 22 minutes.

Lewis & Harr

In a negro comedy skit, “Along the Suwanee River.” Two men, one woman, a darky boy, old man and mammy. A good line of comedy talk, which won a lot of laughs. Southern melodies are introduced by three with banjo and guitar accompaniment. Just a smattering of dancing by the boy. They have a very pretty special set which adds greatly to the merit of the act. Went well throughout an finished moderately strong. 24 minutes, special act in 5.

Jere Grady and Co.

Comedy sketch “The Butterfly.” A very good Irish comedy sketch, full of laughs from the start. Went very good. 12 min. full stage. Own set.

McIntyre & Heath

Assisted by one man. Time 42. Open in 2 woods, close F.S. Woods. “The Georgia Minstrels.” They were greeted by a big advance hand and kept the audience roared throughout this famous expert. Seldom have seen any attraction take so well.

Miss Sydney Shields & Co.

2 men, 1 woman. Time 19. Office interior. Comedy sketch called, “Broadway U.S.A.” Plot somewhat novel. Good situations spoiled by very “flat” lines at times. Got by but none too well.

Hopkins-Axtell Company

18 minutes open and close in one. 3 scenes. This act has a decided element of novelty, and the sleeping car scene was particularly good. In fact, they got almost as much comedy out of it as Mrs. Crane gets out of hers. The act proved very satisfactory in this spot.

Gerald Griffin & Co.

In “Other People’s Money.” This is quite a funny sketch. Griffin had them laughing and the act may be said to have scored a hit. However, with the exception of the boy, his support is not very good. 24 Min. F.S.

Donovan & Arnold

It is surprising how well this act went, particularly Donovan’s monologue. He had a lot of stuff which seemed new to me and had the audience in screams. When Miss Arnold came on the stage the act let down some, but they went quite well as a whole. 20 Min. in One.

Whitman & Davis

Comedy sketch entitled His Little Game, make several changes, 2 songs, went well.

Loie Bridge & Co.

In “The Runaways.” Six people in a rural farce which kept the audience screaming with laughter all the way through. It is pretty long for a sketch and a rehearsal has been called for the morning to get the act down to a proper running length. A couple of the women are weak and amateurish and should be changed if the act expects the big time. Kitchen in 3. Time 29 min.
