In some respects I like this the best of any of the Pickanninie acts we play. Miss Thurber makes a very nice appearance and the pickanninies do some very good singing and dancing. Bright lively act, and held down this spot satisfactorily. 12 min. in 1, 2 shows.
In a new act entitled, ‘A Chinese Idyl.’ Opens in one with a song by Miss Gassman and a song by one of the pickaninies. This section of the act lacks life. Act then goes to special full stage set carried by Miss Gassman and the ‘Chinese Idyl’ is presented. This consists of Miss Gassman and two pickaninies dressed as Chinese, doing a singing and dancing act. Just about strong enough for this spot. Open in one, special set in 5. 15 minutes.
I think this woman gave us the best act we ever had. She carries two drops to represent Japanese and Indian Village scenes. The ‘picks’ make four changes. The singing is excellent and they close with a good lively dance, making a very strong finish. Was applauded throughout. 12 min. in one, 2 shows.
2 shows, 13 min. in 1. This woman has four pickanninies with her, and although the act was a little slow in working up, it got them toward the finish and closed to good applause. Her picks are not quite as clever as Remingtons’, but the difference would hardly be perceptible to the audience.
This woman presented the greatest pickanannie act we ever had here. Children make three changes and each one is funny. Act is quick and full of action. Big applause on the finish. 13 min in the one.
This has developed [sic] into a first-class act of its kind. The girl as a very good singer and she has three good coons, one of them being especially funny on account of the way she is built. 17 minutes in one.
Drapery in one, 17 minutes. Woman of fairly good personal appearance, who could dress with more taste. It is the conventional Pickaninny act and her fault seems to be that she allows the Pickanninies to work too much, instead of keeping the centre of the stage herself. She claims to have a cold, but her voice was not bad to-day. Closed to fairly good applause but it might be necessary to lift this act up one or two positions. 3 shows.
We consider this a good act. They have made a great hit, and received many curtain calls. The two colored boys are especially good. Burke and La Rue sustain their parts finely. Dancing and singing good. Full stage. 25 min.
Drapery in one. 13 min. Woman of very pleasing appearance with considerable vocal ability which gained a good bit of applause. The 2 Pickaninnies are hardly up to the standard set by Pickaninnies along this line of work and for this reason she did not close as strongly as her first appearance indicated she would. 2 shows.
Opens in one with a coster song then to two where he has a special drop representing the Subway and sings ‘The Pickaninnies’ with a chorus of fine boys with picks made up as laborers. West possesses a good voice and the act was well received. 14 min, can close in one.
