“Selecting a Suitor.” Good comedy film.

Kinetograph

“In India.” Interesting travel film, colored. “Two Chums Looking For Wives.” Usual comedy. Kinetograph series quite up to the standard.

Kinetograph

“The Interesting Chess Game”. Comedy that gets laughs.

“Two Sides to Every Story.” A good comedy film on the subject of a widow and widower who marry without disclosing to each other the fact that they each have children. Very amusing with a good finish. “Baby Swallowed a Nickel.” A good comedy film.

Chas. Wayne & Co.

In the comedy ’10 AM or the Morning After.’ Moved this man up on account of the discouraging reports and to my surprise he held his own. Company consists of Gertrude Des Roche & Burt Morton. The woman is rather attractive but has a bad delivery. Wayne’s drunken scene in one with the assistance of Kinetograph describing his trip home started them off with plenty of laughs. The next scene held its own containing plenty of action, good business, laughs, etc. In its entirety it pleased. Wayne always was a bad proposition as a comedian. With another man this act could be improved upon. 26 minutes, open in one 5 minutes, close in one 2 minutes.

On at 4.33, 23 min.  Showing “A Visit to Constantinople”, a very good film, combination scenic and comic, with comedy predominating.  “Pres. Fallieres’ Visit to the French Colonial Exposition”, one of the most interesting films I have seen in some time.  This also contains some good comedy bits.  “Private Atkins Minds the Baby”, good humorous picture.  These three pictures make one of the best motion picture features we have had recently.

On at 4.32, 20 min.  “The Grafter”, a corking good comic film.  “Forbidden Sport”, a very good picture, showing French poachers at work.  I trimmed this a little in spots, as I did not think the part of the picture showing the killing of the birds was suitable to run.  “Following in Father’s Footsteps”, another good comic film, although I cut out the latter portion of it, for the reason that the youngster who appears in the picture is supposed to accumulate a lovely spouse, and we do not care to show views of this sort to the many children who patronize this house.

Kinetograph

ON at 4.32, 20min.  “The Mechanical Statue”, a fair comic film.  “Customs Officers and Smugglers”, quite interesting, and sensational in spots.  “The Wind Doth Blow”, very good comic, extravagant of course, but gets the laughs.   It is getting pretty hard work these days to get films ahead of the 5 and 10-cent shows, and I wish that some way could be devised so that the Circuit could control new films for a certain length of time, but I suppose this is impossible, as Mr. Waters tells me that the manufacturers have even better customers than he; that is, people who will buy more feet of new films than he can.

Biograph

3 shows, 25 min. in 1. Interesting and humorist series of motion pictures, including the automobile held over from last week. A film showing some of the incidents connected with the opening of the St. Louis fair, was too dark, having evidently been photographed on a dull day. It is better than no record of the event, however.
