Adelaide Herman

(12 mins.) Her usual magical act with a few changes. Did very well as an opener.

Van Hoven

2 minutes in one. Olio Drop. This crazy magician had the audiences fairly convulsed with laughter. Held this hard spot in great shape. It is a toss-up whether Sale or Van Hoven made the audience laugh the hardest. His new finish, with the boys carrying a cake of ice through the audience had the house in hysterics.

Han Ping Chien and the Great Pekin Mysteries

26 minutes f.s. Special set. Four Chinaman and one Chinese woman doing a line of magic not unlike Ching Ling Foo, but with an element of comedy. If Ching had not taken the edge off an act of this kind, this would be a big feature. As it is, it is a good headliner for the money, and can be played up.

Karrell

The talkative magician, 12 minutes in (I). Good act; he shows practically all of the stuff usually seen in a vaudeville magician’s offering. He is very skillful in the handling of apparatus, and if he has a failing it is his weakness in the pure slight-of-hand business, such as the continuous front and back-hand palming of cards and coins, the ‘modus operandi’ of some of the feats being quite apparent. He went fairly well, receiving considerable applause.

Ten-Ichi & Troupe

In magical illusions. The opening of the act, the magical, by the young girl is simply repetition of what has been done by many three a day magicians here. The rope tying trick is very good and their water juggling at the finish is a great novelty. It is a very quiet act but while I think people liked it, it got very little applause. 28 minutes, 2 shows.

J. Warren Keane

Compelled to have this man open in one, then full stage, can close in one, which I suppose disorganized his routine. However, his act seemed to be interesting, His work is the regular routine matter of acts of this kind. Received some scattered applause with a fairly good hand on the finish. Eighteen minutes in all.

Henry Clive

Assisted by Mai Sturgia Walker. Clive works in full dress while the woman makes a very neat appearance. Does a few tricks in magic with the assistance of a boy in the audience. Manages to scor [sic] some good strong laughs. Fully capable of holding a better position. Fifteen minutes in two. Can work in one.

Lola Cotton

In one.  Time 15.  Lola cotton and her father.  The man passes through the audience asking for letters, cards, watches, rings or anything to be described.  Lola tells what the article is instantly.  She also tells addresses on letters, when they were mailed, etc.  The act makes a big hit and it is one of the best “mystifiers” we have had in a long time.

Ziska & King

Magic: 20 min.  F.S.  2 shows.  On at 7:45.  This is a good act in the early two-a-day section.  Ziska’s impersonation of the late Alexander Hermann adds greatly to the at.  There is a good deal of expert magic, the comedy work of King keeps the audience in good humour.  The stage setting is quite elaborate, and also adds to the value of the act.  Not so strong an act as their previous one, the work being long drawn out and dull in spots.  Closed well.

Valadon

Formerly associated with Kellar, and making his second appearance here.  Has an excellent act, and his feature “The Mysterious Cross” was not only mystifying, but will cause some talk.  23 min. F.S.
