The Great Lafayette

2 shows, 40 min, full stage. Got quite a hand on his entrance. Started his act with lighting changes and then performed conjuring feats a la Ching Ling Foo. The orchestra he carried in this portion of the act is the only thing on which to criticize and that is certainly BEYOND the limit. Sounded like a fair crowd attracter. He next travestizes [sic] noted bandmasters, past and present, including Creatore. Secured the most applause at the finish, in proportion to the audience, that I have heard handed out to any act in this theatre for a long time. With the exception of the ‘band’ everything he does is above criticism.

Hermann the Great

Most of the stuff that he does is done by other magicians, and some of them are done better. The worst part of his act is that it’s impossible to understand what he’s talking about. He carries a lot of scenery, also 3 or 4 helpers, so that the act looks big from the front. Don’t think he draws any money. Time 28 minutes full stage.

Herbert and Ford

Magician and comedian. I don’t think we ever play anything worse than this act as it was presented this afternoon. The comedian was so atrocious that I closed the comedian out entirely; allowed the magician to stay as the work which he did seemed to be pretty and I think he will get by, in an early place; probably will do about 12 min in one. They did 22 min. this afternoon, three shows.

Adelaide Herrman & Co.

Magic and illusion. Full stage, 2 shows, 28 minutes. Received some applause for her work, but not as much as I anticipated. The act is nicely presented and makes a beautiful picture, but she certainly does bungling work and is receiving entirely too much money.

Martini and Maxmillian

18 minutes in three, close in about four min. Burlesque Magic. This act only went fare with us and would not care to play them on return, unless they get another act. This is their third appearance here and our patrons are about tired of them.

Lawrence Crane

Well known magician, who has played our circuit and has improved his act materially in the way of a handsome black velvet curtain and some new elaborate wardrobe. An act that is really too good to open the show and would be thoroughly all right for four or five on any bill. 18 min in one, 3 shows.

Mme. Adelaide Herrmann

2 shows, 28 min, full stage. This woman has all her competitors beaten to a standstill, when all the points in her act are fairly considered. It is sumptuously staged, magnificently costumed, she is graceful in all her movements and has just ability enough to ‘make good’ with her illusions without overdoing anything. She was enthusiastically applauded at the close of her act.

Roltare

Card manipulator with little music. This fellow makes a good appearance, works in full dress. He only does a few tricks and does them well. He manages to get a lot of applause from a glass face clock that he uses, rather a novel tick. At the price he is all right for an early place. Can work in one, drop in 2, 17 minutes.

Shungopavi

3 shows, 16 min. in 2. Noki Indian Medicine Man, who tells many interesting things about his tribe and performs a few tricks in magic. It is something quite out of the ordinary for vaudeville and the audience this afternoon followed him with close attention and loudly applauded him at the close. Had a picture of the Rain Dance of his nation in the biograph, which gained interest from his observation about it.

Martini and Max Millian

2 shows, 23 min, open in 4, close in 1. Magician and illusionist, and his comedy assistant. Act is too well known to all managers on the circuit to need to reviewing. They had something of an advance reception, indicating that they had friends in the audience, and the act only went well and not big. I agree with Mr. Lovenberg in his observations of last week concerning the act. They want some new tricks, as the audiences are already familiar with those they do know.
